ATU Members 99% In Favour of Strike

From the Office of the President of ATU 966 Transit Workers:

Thunder Bay Transit Workers have once again made their voices loud and clear with an overwhelming

99% vote in favour of strike action.

Negotiations between the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 966 and the City of Thunder Bay have been ongoing since early June 2023, with talks breaking off as of December 14, 2023. ATU Local 966 members have been without a new Collective Agreement since their last Agreement expired June 30, 2023.

ATU Local 966 President Fred Caputo states that “this is always a very difficult and frustrating time for our members. They have been working under staffed and in an ever-increasing stressful work environment in an attempt to keep Conventional buses and Lift+ specialized units on the road for the riding public.”

President Fred Caputo also states “the city seem to always be in financial crisis when bargaining with Transit workers begins. Members are fed up hearing there is no money for ATU members and then seeing City Administration staff increase their wage bands by 12% with no concessions.”

Our members deserve a fair agreement for their hard work and dedication to the riding public of Thunder Bay.
